Packrafting Adventures

PACKRAFTING: Our guided packrafting adventures offer you that unique experience in combining paddling and backpacking in one self-sufficient trip. As all our adventures these trips take you into the heart of the beautiful wild Northern European open spaces where trails and water ways are a permanent invitation to exploring more. You'll be carrying everything you need for rafting and hiking in a fitted backpack we provide which means that we don't have a vehicle or an animal or other assistance to do the job. The pack's weight varies depending on the number of days of adventure and what you bring in. The packrafting gear to carry when hiking is about 4 kg.

We provide everything except your clothes for hiking and your personal items. Here are the main items that Lappitrek has for you: backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and pads, trekking poles, cooking gear and eco-dishware, packrafts, life-jackets, paddles, the clothes for packrafting and the dry bags. The meals are adapted to the practice of trekking and the necessity of having the lightest backpack as possible.

Please consider the physical aspect of the activity which is somehow demanding: paddling long distances, sometimes paddling against the currents, a backpack that weights more than for a day-hike, alternating two sports in one day. Our adventures can be adjusted if there are children; discuss the matter with the guide.

Note: The prices reflect the high quality but still fragile of the packrafting gear.

THE EXPERIENCE TO LIVE: Our journey begins on foot in the Varkaankuru forest. The tall spruce and other black spruce trees, the melodious streams with clear and fresh water, and the little wooden bridges are truly enchanting. Through this boreal vegetation, a lake can be seen. On its bank, a “laavu”, a traditional shelter for loggers in the Far North, invites us for lunch. Later, it's time to open the backpack, unroll and inflate the packraft, assemble all the necessary equipment, and continue our journey on the water. Placed under the good guard of two Arctic mountains with very mineral slopes, we move on to this lake until we find the mouth of the Kesänki River. Its imperceptible current accompanies us in its multiple meanders through the tall grass of the peat bogs. A small sandbank, a footbridge, a dam of trunks and plants worthy of the work of beavers, a tunnel, the small fish... everything contributes to a journey of peace and exploration.

THE EXPERIENCE TO LIVE: At the foot of the mountain range of Pallas National Park, far from everything, there is a small lake, and at the bottom, a small gray sand beach. This pretty water field, in a typically boreal setting, awaits all those looking for an atmosphere of solitude. Our quest begins with an easy hike between a forest of small trees and peat bogs. After crossing a few streams, we arrive at "the horn". We take the packrafts out of the backpacks, inflate them, gear up, and continue our journey on the water. The shores call us to explore every corner, as for the beach, to a quiet lunch break in the wilderness. The rest of this initiatory journey slowly takes us to the opposite shore, eventually finding the way back to the beginning. Note: this route is ideal for an experience that would combine hiking, packrafting, and a night of bivouac/wild camping. Don't hesitate to ask if you want to experience it!

THE EXPERIENCE TO LIVE:
The "Great Lake" is a gem in Finnish Lapland. To be honest it's not that hidden but at Lappitrek we've explored every corner of it which is only accessible by foot or boat. This lake is a permanent invitation to enjoy life in the North. Its white and ochre sand beaches are an invitation to contemplate the forest and mountains bordering the shores. Its several little wilderness huts are an invitation to settle down. Its shallow and sandy bottoms are an invitation to swim even though the water temperature is not the warmest on Earth. And what to say about those gorgeous sunsets, sunrises, midnight sunny nights... They are an invitation not to sleep and live life to the fullest. This packrafting trip is truly a beautiful journey. If you are willing to spend more time in the area we recommend you to book our packrafting adventure called "From Jeris to Pallas" because it includes a tour of that great lake.
