PALLAS PERSPECTIVES

"This hiking route is one of a kind. It combines one section of one of our most challenging hikes, "Five Fells Up", and a section of the easy "Great Lake" hike. Because, yes, I wanted to offer you a discovery of the Pallas National Park like no other agency does, namely from different angles, among the most beautiful, I must say. We start at altitude with a spectacular view of the park's lake, and we conclude with a meal in a cabin on the ochre sandy shores of that same lake facing the mountains that we hiked earlier. DISTANCE: 6 km
LEVEL: Moderate
ENVIRONMENT: This day hike mainly takes place on the top of the fells, potentially exposed to the winds and fog. Expect a 250 m elevation gain. There is free access to two shelters and dry toilets on the itinerary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Be able to hike the distance and elevation gain indicated above. Have a good physical condition.

A FINNISH DAY
WHEN: From May to August
DURATION: 1 afternoon + evening
MEETING POINT: In Kittilä or Levi
DISTANCE: 8 km
LEVEL: Moderate to demanding
ENVIRONMENT: This day hike takes place deep in nature but not too far away from an urban structure. We progress in a forest of high trees at first, then we end on the top of a mountain potentially exposed to winds. Expect a 400m elevation gain and a few steep sections. There is no facility on the itinerary, only at the sauna resort at the end of the hiking part of the program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Be able to hike the distance and elevation gain indicated above. Have a perfect health condition. Know how to swim if you plan to go into the lake at the sauna resort.

THE EXPERIENCE TO LIVE: The true Finnish way of life is a good sweating hike to the top of one of the highest fells in the area followed by a long relaxing time in a luxury sauna by the lake. We have created that exciting combo of two great moments of adventure as the sites of these two are separated by only one kilometer! Save your whole afternoon and evening for this program as we will try to rediscover the virtues of uniting ourselves with the natural elements and slowing down the pace of our lives. Indeed that hike cannot be a round trip rush to the summit forgetting to enjoy the wide angle views on the lakes on both side of the mountain, the immense taiga that stretches to the Swedish border, and the long range of Pallas fells. Likewise a sauna experience cannot be a schedule to obey. We will take time to discover the different Lappish atmospheres filling the several sauna rooms, and of course to take as many dips as we wish in the refreshing waters of the lake.

We progress in the forest, through bog areas, and on the top of the fells. There are five shelters and dry toilets available on the itinerary.

THE EXPERIENCE TO LIVE: If you have ever wondered what Lapland looks like then book this trip! We have all the different environments of our region packed into one hike. It starts with hiking on duckboards through the bogs. At times we go deep into the boreal forest. Half way we find the beautiful lake of Kesänkijärvi nested between two Arctic fells. This is where we will take our lunch inside a Lappish hut. Then our trail becomes rocky as it elevates to those fells. The rest of the trip is a journey through a fascinating mineral world and like on a balcony overviewing the areas we hiked through earlier in the day .
